CCW Minutes May 5, 2009

The meeting was called to order at 7 p.m.= with 5 members present and 2 more attending later. The opening prayer was the Canticle of Mary.

The secretary’s minutes were read and app= roved.

The treasurer’s report shows a balance of= $1185.05 and $349.77 in savings. There was no new income since last report.

Thank-you’s w= ere received from New Beginnings in St. Cloud, Habitat for Humanity and the Sis= ters of St. Francis for our past donations.

&nbs= p;            &= nbsp;           &nbs= p;            &= nbsp;           &nbs= p;       iii.   &= nbsp;  Reverence for Life-Ruthann discussed putting= a bassinet in church sometime in May for baby items to be donated. She will c= heck with Father Pat on which weekend works the best. “Dad’s Rootbeer” will be given out on Father’s Day weekend to all the dads from St. Johns. <= /p>

The Mission of Love Valentines was a great success. She will put a thank-you in the bulletin. <= /p>

&nbs= p;            &= nbsp;           &nbs= p;            &= nbsp;           &nbs= p;   viii.   =    Scholarship-Sue Steuck = was awarded $35.00 from the Diocese for attending a Bible Study Course this yea= r. Kathy Nowak is considering going to the National Convention in Florida this year and will apply for a scholarship next year. Discussion was held about = some other churches receiving large scholarships and how we could possibly better utilize the funds from the Diocese.

b.&n= bsp;     Old Business

&nbs= p;            &= nbsp;           &nbs= p;            &= nbsp;           &nbs= p;           i.   &nb= sp;  The NUDCCW convention was a positive experience for those who attended. The host church in Springfield did a great job. About 3= 00 people attended the convention.

       &nbs= p;            &= nbsp;           &nbs= p;            &= nbsp;           &nbs= p;  ii.   &n= bsp;  Out Silent Auction items made by Andy Levinski brought in $20.00 at the convention.

       &nbs= p;            &= nbsp;           &nbs= p;            &= nbsp;            iii.   &= nbsp;  Jan Lyrek will get a price for a new dish-rack cart for t= he Ed Center. She has been in contact with a sales person from her work. She will also get prices on a rubber mat for in front of the sink. We will have Donna Hughes check on a sprayer with a brush on the end for one of the sinks. The= re is still one rubbermaid cart to be assembled at= the Ed Center.

       &nbs= p;            &= nbsp;           &nbs= p;            &= nbsp;            iv.   &n= bsp;  The CCW newsletter will be mailed tonight with an envelope for dues to be returned.= It was cheaper to do a letter than a postcard. We will do a booklet every other year to save on costs.

       &nbs= p;            &= nbsp;           &nbs= p;            &= nbsp;           &nbs= p;  v.   &nb= sp;  The Easter = wine and cheese after mass was a huge success. We ran out of wine and punch. We = are not scheduled again until 2011.

       &nbs= p;            &= nbsp;           &nbs= p;            &= nbsp;            vi.   &n= bsp;  Having the Mission of Love Valentines in the pews was a great idea and possibly the re= ason more money was brought in. $629.00 was raised for Guatemala.

       &nbs= p;            &= nbsp;           &nbs= p;            &= nbsp;          vii.   &= nbsp;  The Welcome Brunch was hosted by the Worship Committee this year. Ruthann attended and = said it was very nice.

       &nbs= p;            &= nbsp;           &nbs= p;            &= nbsp;        viii.   =    The Dassel Lakeside birthday party is scheduled for May 12. Char Benoit and Diane Olson will oversee the party. Cards have been made by Gail Stanley and Donna Hugh= es is making the cupcakes. Theo Wendolek was sent a reminder to play his accordion. We did not receive information from Emmanue= l in Litchfield but they called the day they said we were supposed to have been there. An apology letter was sent.

       &nbs= p;            &= nbsp;           &nbs= p;            &= nbsp;            ix.   &n= bsp;  We received= 8 responses from the 14 applications sent out for the Sen= ior scholarship. We passed around the applications and selected our winner to be announced at the Senior Mass and brunch. The winner receives a $100 check m= ade out to them and their college.

&nbs= p;            &= nbsp;           &nbs= p;            &= nbsp;           &nbs= p;            x.   &nb= sp;  Plans conti= nue for Father Pat’s retirement party with the next scheduled meeting set for J= une 4th <= o:p>

       &nbs= p;            &= nbsp;           &nbs= p;            &= nbsp;            xi.   &n= bsp;  We chose to= chair the ice-cream social this year and have groups 3 and 4 provide the help. We= will meet in June to plan the final details. The date for the social is Friday, = July 1 7th at the Ed Center.

       &nbs= p;            &= nbsp;           &nbs= p;            &= nbsp;          xii.   &= nbsp;  We will hos= t the Summer Board Meeting on July 22 at the church. We will have Mass and a potl= uck meal to follow. More details will be available in June. <= /p>

       &nbs= p;            &= nbsp;           &nbs= p;            &= nbsp;        xiii.   =    We are hopi= ng after the mailing of our newsletter to generate more interest in CCW and fi= ll our open positions.

       &nbs= p;            &= nbsp;           &nbs= p;            &= nbsp;        xiv.   &= nbsp;  The dishwas= her has been repaired at the Ed Center.

&nbs= p;            &= nbsp;           &nbs= p;            &= nbsp;           &nbs= p;     xv.   &n= bsp;  Linda Poirier stat= ed there will be a quilt ready by the ice-cream social to sell chances for.

&nbs= p;            &= nbsp;           &nbs= p;            &= nbsp;           &nbs= p;   xvi.   &= nbsp;  We will inquire about getting the leftover books removed from the chapel. They have been there several months.

c.&n= bsp;      New Business

&nbs= p;            &= nbsp;           &nbs= p;            &= nbsp;           &nbs= p;           i.   &nb= sp;  Leadership training will be in Hector on Tuesday, J= une 1 Some may plan on attending.

&nbs= p;            &= nbsp;           &nbs= p;            &= nbsp;           &nbs= p;         ii.   &n= bsp;  May 24” is the Baccalaureate Mass and brunch. Kathy Nowak will contact Clare Bjork about the invitations to be mailed.

&nbs= p;            &= nbsp;           &nbs= p;            &= nbsp;           &nbs= p;       iii.   &= nbsp;  Colleen will send out the approved letter to those = on the prayer chain. She is looking for the best way to contact people, either through phone or e-mail and what time of day works best. She will update the list with the next time and talent survey.
